What exactly determines pass/fail on scales? And are the students given immediate feedback on whether they have passed or failed (since they must "pass the scale portion of the audition to proceed to the Prepared and Sight-Reading parts of the audition.") I have also been told that the required range for oboe includes a note that many/most high school oboes do not have the key to play. It really seems like it should have had some amendments added to clear up questions such as these.

amen on the amendments issue
Not only is it a note they phyically can't play, how often does it come up in high school-level music? It hurts me to think of how many immature brass players hurt themselves trying to have a 3-octave range on tuba for All-State, when they won't actually encounter music that calls for that until college, if then.
